NZ chains with gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan & vegetarian options

20 multi-location chains have enough pooled menu evidence in our database to rank across gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes at once. 14 of them — including La Porchetta and Thai Chef — have at least one dish flagged for all four diets. Below: every qualifying chain, ranked by gluten-free dish count, with dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan counts alongside.

Why chain data works differently from single-venue data

A chain like a burger franchise or a bubble tea brand typically runs the same menu — plus the same dietary tagging — across every location. Instead of checking dish-by-dish at each individual store, we pool everything recorded for a brand across all its locations into one set of counts. A high gluten-free count for a chain means real evidence of that many distinct GF-flagged dishes somewhere in its network, not that every single location stocks every item.

Chains ranked by dietary evidence

Ranked by gluten-free dish count (GF or GF-on-request), with dairy-free (DF or DF-on-request), vegetarian (vegetarian, vegan, or vegetarian-on-request), and strict vegan counts shown alongside. Each figure is shown as a fraction of the chain's total recorded dishes, so you can judge coverage relative to menu size rather than comparing raw counts across chains of very different sizes.

Multi-location NZ chains with at least 5 pooled menu dishes on record. Menu-derived from each chain's own scanned or submitted menu — not independently verified. A 0 means no dish is currently flagged that way, not confirmation the chain has none.

Help us complete this list

Our database is community-driven and NZ-focused. If a chain you eat at isn't listed, or its numbers look out of date — submit it, or if you manage a brand's menu yourself, get in touch via our brands page to keep it current across every location at once.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a "chain" here?

Multi-location brands that manage a shared menu at the brand level rather than per-venue — the count pools every recorded dish across all of a chain's locations, not just one flagship store. Only chains with at least 5 pooled menu dishes on record are included, to avoid ranking a brand off a handful of items.

Does a "0" mean that chain has no options for that diet?

No — it means no dish is currently flagged that way in our database. Menu coverage varies a lot by chain, and a flag only appears once someone has scanned or entered that chain's menu with dietary tags attached. A 0 is a data gap, not necessarily a real gap in what the chain serves — always check with the venue.

Is this the same as "verified"?

No. These counts are menu-derived — read from each chain's own scanned or submitted menu, not independently checked ingredient-by-ingredient. It's a good starting signal for which chains are worth a closer look, not a substitute for confirming with staff, especially for coeliac disease or a serious allergy.

How is "vegetarian" different from "vegan" in this table?

Vegetarian counts every dish flagged vegetarian, on-request, or vegan (vegan dishes are always vegetarian too). Vegan is counted strictly — only dishes flagged vegan outright, not "vegetarian with a substitution."

How is this different from the region and suburb venue guides?

The region and suburb venue guides list every individual venue in a place with evidence for one diet. This guide instead ranks brands — useful if you already know you're near a particular chain and want to know whether it's worth checking, regardless of which of its locations you're at.

Medical & accuracy disclaimer: DietTribe provides general information, not medical advice. Coeliac disease is a medical condition — talk to your doctor or dietitian about your diet. A venue's gluten-free status can change without notice — menus, suppliers, and kitchen practices change, and cross-contamination risk varies even where gluten-free items are on the menu. Always confirm current practices directly with the venue before eating, especially if you have coeliac disease rather than a milder sensitivity. Venue statuses shown here reflect our database at the time this page was built.
